Most creative tools insist on a single line of work. Pick the page, place the idea, advance to the next. The metaphor is print, the assumption is paper, and the result is a workflow that pretends time runs in one direction.
It does not.
When you are thinking, the idea you arrive at is rarely the first one you considered. You felt the shape of three or four alternatives before settling. The shape of the rejected ideas mattered. The decision was the residue of an exploration, not the exploration itself.
The cage is the assumption that creation is a sequence. The cage is everywhere.
