Divergence is not the opposite of focus. It is what makes focus possible. To pick well, you have to have alternatives in view; to know what works, you have to feel the shape of what doesn’t.
The discipline is in the return.
A method here is the trip out and the trip back: branch wide, sketch fast, then collapse. The artist controls the rhythm; the canvas holds the artifacts. Plnty’s job is to keep the branches legible without forcing them into a sequence.
Divergence is a method, not chaos.
