Working with the grain

Every material has a direction it wants to go. Wood splits cleanly along one axis and tears along the other. Stone takes the chisel where its bedding planes allow. Pixels, polygons, and prompts have grains too — they aren’t infinitely malleable, and pretending otherwise is how good ideas turn into bad output.

The skill is reading the grain.

Plnty’s role is to make the grain visible — what the model is good at, what the geometry can hold, what the page wants to do. The artist still chooses; the system stops hiding the constraints. Work with the grain and the medium gives more than it asks. That is the end of the cage.

Don’t fight the grain. Read it.
