image-to-pbr

A photo of a surface, turned into material maps.

On the rail as image-to-pbr.

Turning a flat photo of a surface, like a wood grain or a fabric weave, into a full set of material maps ready to put on a model.

It takes no written direction, so it needs a flat photo of the surface itself, not a photo of an object or scene, or the maps it returns will not read as a material.

  1. Drop a picture onto the card’s Reference slot, from the board or your computer.
  2. Pick a model in the pill at the top of the card, or keep Patina (fal).
  3. Press Run. Each result lands on the board as its own item.

The pill at the top of the card picks the model. Patina (fal) is the one a new card starts on.

Model Good for
Patina (fal) The default engine for reading a surface photograph into five PBR maps (base colour, normal, roughness, metallic and height), dropped on the canvas as separate images ready for a model.
PBR Estimate (Replicate) The engine with dials: six maps (base colour, normal, roughness, height, ambient occlusion and emissive) at 512 or 1024px, with normal strength and format, height contrast, AO strength and a tiling blend set before the run.

Not the one for: It returns no ambient occlusion or emissive map and exposes no resolution, normal-format or strength dials, so when those maps or controls are needed the Replicate engine on the same pill is the one.

This model has no settings behind the settings button.

Not the one for: No metallic map comes back and output is capped at 1024px, so a metal surface or a texture that must be larger than 1K needs the other engine or an upscale afterwards.
