remove-bg

A subject, lifted onto transparency.

On the rail as remove-bg.

Taking the background off a picture or a clip to get the subject back alone, ready to composite, layer, or drop onto something else.

It keeps what the model finds unless words or a box name one thing to keep, and it redraws nothing. Isolating a subject so it can become a 3D model is Image Isolate’s job: a 3D generator reads a plain backdrop better.

  1. Use the card’s Image or video area. The picture or clip whose background comes off. The result shows over a checkerboard.
  2. Pick a model in the pill at the top of the card, or keep On this device.
  3. Press Run.
Control What it does Choices
Image or video The picture or clip whose background comes off. The result shows over a checkerboard.
Run Starts the run. The number on it is what this run costs in credits, worked out before you press.
×1 Runs the card several times in a row with the same settings. 1 to 99

The pill at the top of the card picks the model. On this device is the one a new card starts on.

Model Good for
On this device Cutting the subject out of a picture onto transparency for free, on the person’s own computer, with the card’s curve, edge and shadow controls shaping the cut.
Bria RMBG 2.0 Cutting the subject out of a picture onto real transparency as a PNG, with nothing to set.
Pixelcut Cutting the subject of a clip out of its background, keeping fine hair, as a transparent clip.
VEED Cutting the background out of a clip with no green screen, as a transparent WebM that plays on the canvas or an H.264 RGB plus alpha-matte pair for a video editor.

Not the one for: Needs a browser with WebGPU; ghosted glass, sheer fabric and motion blur come out cleaner from Bria RMBG 2.0, the other side of the pill.

Setting What it does Choices
Hair detail Rebuilds hair, fur and fine edges from the photo itself, only where the edge is already soft. On or off
Remove fringe Takes the old background’s colour out of the edge, so the cutout carries no halo onto its new ground. 0 to 100 %
Clean up Specks left in the background and pinholes in the subject smaller than this go. 0 to 40 px
Shadow softness Softens the photo’s own shadow when Shadow is on Keep. 0 to 20 px
Brush size How wide Paint back and Paint out paint on the picture. 4 to 120 px
Preview on What the cutout is shown over on the card. The result is transparent whatever this says. Checker, White, Black
Output Cutout lands the transparent picture. Mask lands it as black and white: white keeps, black clears. Both lands the two side by side. Cutout, Mask, Both

Not the one for: Not the step before a 3D generator: those models read a subject on a white studio backdrop more reliably than transparency, which is what image-isolate makes; there is no prompt to say which object to keep.

Not the one for: It is slower than VEED, and like every cloud cut it makes glass and smoke opaque.

Steady Averages the cut over this many frames where the picture holds still, so an edge does not shimmer. A moving edge is left as the model cut it. 1 to 9 frames

Not the one for: Person mode is for real people only, since it ghosts the edges on products and toys; Refine Edges adds a little cost, and the H.264 pair cannot play transparent on the canvas.
