upscale

A picture or clip made bigger, faithfully or creatively.

On the rail as upscale.

Making a picture, a texture or a clip larger, whether the pixels are already right and simply small, or the surface needs detail it never had, like grass, hair or fabric, and on a clip, keeping that detail steady from frame to frame.

Not for changing what is in the frame: it only makes it bigger. The model is the whole choice: a faithful one adds no detail that was never captured, and a creative one invents texture that was never there.

  1. Use the card’s Image or video area. The picture or clip to work on. Drop one from the board or your computer.
  2. Set Scale, Model on the card.
  3. Pick a model in the pill at the top of the card, or keep Topaz Generative.
  4. Press Run.
Control What it does Choices
Image or video The picture or clip to work on. Drop one from the board or your computer.
Scale How much bigger the result is. 4x costs about four times 2x, because it is four times the pixels. 2x, 4x
Model The first four run on Krea at a flat price whatever the output size. The Wonder line is newer, runs on fal, and is billed by output megapixels, so a 4x of a large picture costs several times more. Redefine, Recovery, Recovery V2, Reimagine, Wonder 3.5, Wonder 3, Wonder 2, Wonder, Recover 3, Standard MAX
Run Starts the run. The number on it is what this run costs in credits, worked out before you press.
×1 Runs the card several times in a row with the same settings. 1 to 99

The pill at the top of the card picks the model. Topaz Generative is the one a new card starts on.

Model Good for
P-Image Upscale A faithful enlargement to 4 or 8 megapixels in under a second, keeping what is already in the pixels, with Enhance Realism for AI-generated images and Enhance Details for fine texture.
SeedVR A 2x or 4x upscale that sharpens detail while preserving the composition, with a noise dial for how faithful to stay; the pass for tidying a reference before it feeds a 3D generator.
Topaz Generative Generative enlargement that rebuilds detail a small or degraded source no longer holds, with Creativity and Texture dials, an optional steering prompt, and the older Redefine and Recovery models kept for looks built on them.
Topaz Bloom Creative enlargement that invents detail on purpose, with a Creativity dial, an optional prompt to steer what it adds and Bloom Realism to bias the invention toward photoreal; the pass for a generated frame that needs more than it has.
SeedVR The default faithful upscale at four tiers (720p, 1080p, 1440p, 2160p), sharpening fine detail while keeping frames consistent, priced by output pixels and clip length with no duration cap.
FLUX 3 Upscaling a clip 1.5x to 3x, up to 4K: precise keeps faces, products and real footage exact, creative invents new detail and is the sharpest on generated footage, with an optional prompt saying what kind.
Starlight Upscaling built for AI-generated footage: Precise 2.6 rebuilds the texture and motion detail that makes a clip read as real rather than synthetic, at 1080p or 4K, with Mini for archival, HQ, Sharp and a half-price Fast 2.

Not the one for: It does not invent detail, so a soft or tiny source comes back soft and simply larger; output is capped at 8 megapixels and there is no prompt.

Setting What it does Choices
Enhance Realism Improves overall realism. Works especially well on AI-generated images. On or off
Enhance Details Sharpens fine textures and small details. May raise contrast slightly. On or off

Not the one for: Only 2x and 4x, billed by output megapixels so a 4x costs four times a 2x of the same picture, and there is no prompt to steer what it adds.

Behind the settings button:

Setting What it does Choices
Noise Scale How much fresh texture detail it invents while enlarging. Higher adds more but can look busier. 0 to 1
Seed The starting dice roll. The same seed and settings give the same result every time; change it for a fresh variation, or leave it at -1 for a new random one. -1 to 999999

Not the one for: It reinvents rather than preserves, so it is the wrong pass when the pixels are right and simply small; 2x or 4x only, and the 4x bill is roughly four times the 2x one.

Behind the settings button:

Setting What it does Choices
Creativity How much new detail it invents. Higher reinvents more. 1 to 6
Texture Surface texture richness. 1 to 5

Not the one for: Wrong on a photograph that has to stay true, since it invents rather than preserves; only 2x and 4x, and 4x costs roughly four times 2x.

Behind the settings button:

Setting What it does Choices
Creativity How far it goes when inventing detail. 1 to 9
Preserve Colors Hold the source palette while detail is invented on top. On or off

Not the one for: It restores what is in the shot and invents nothing, with no prompt; the cost climbs with the tier, so 4K on a long clip is expensive.

This model has no settings behind the settings button.

Not the one for: It upscales 20 s at most, cutting a longer clip to a part, and takes clips up to 2560x1440; both modes cost the same, and a long 4K run is the largest single spend on the canvas.

Behind the settings button:

Setting What it does Choices
Detail Prompt Optional. Describes the kind of detail to invent, for example skin texture or fabric weave. Your words

Not the one for: Clips above 30fps cost double, softness only works on Precise 2.6, and there is no target fps here, since slow motion is a different tool.

Behind the settings button:

Setting What it does Choices
Softness Sharpest (1) to softest (5). Only Precise 2.6 accepts it. 1 to 5
